Tapestries of Orr

The Relics of Orr podcast seems like it’s slowly winding up to be on a more regular schedule, which would be great. There are a few quality podcasts out now but RoO remains a favourite.

With the growing amount of activity comes a new face to RoO’s ranks. Shongaqu. And he has created a fairly interesting feature for Relics, a video series that focuses on fan projects. Tapestries of Orr.

While I’m not sure how I feel about the name, the idea is a solid one and I like the execution. There aren’t a whole lot of other video series featuring fan art, blogs, community works etc.

Full disclosure, I’m featured in the first episode and have been known to associate with people from Relics.

Guild Wars 2 College Fan Art

I was looking over my twitter feed and noticed that Elixabeth, self described aspiring people-person type, had posted some fan art.

I believe I’ve posted some of her fan art before during the whole Obey vs Dismantle fan art war.

In any case I liked the design and skill she shows with these pieces.

Home of the Fightin' Golems!

At the College of Dynamics we strive to be better than you.

Building crazy floating geometric objects since 1078 AE

We know so little about The Eternal Alchemy or the 3 schools associated somehow with character creation. I love that she’s gone ahead and made posters for each school. Awesome work.

Now all we need is posters for the Nightmare Court, The Dream, Bear Spirit, Wolf Spirit, Ash Legion, the 6 gods, I suppose this just goes on forever.

Sylvari Fan Art

In game sylvari

Birch The Necromancer

Tigerfeet posted a bit of her art last week and it got me thinking about fan art. Her “Birch” is obviously based on a birch bark tree, which I found kind of clever. The necromantic minion in her arms however, was less than appealing. I guess necromancers are like that. Is it coincidence her hair reminds me of dying tall grass? I don’t know.

Already there is an upswing in Guild Wars 2 art, on the guru forums, at deviantart, and I’m sure on every blog, website, or forum to be found. There is probably too much of it to show in one post. Yet when Mogsy posted her recent piece of fan art I was inspired to post fan art devoted to a theme. Specifically sylvari.

Her piece is of course a sylvari. Judging by the response I got with my recent poll of the popularity of races, it should be no surprise an acquaintance emailed her to ask her for a rendition of one.

Petal head

Out of 38 votes, one third are for sylvari.

Mogsy on her inspiration. “I was munching on some seedless grapes the other day, and was suddenly inspired by a fleeting image in my head of a girl with hair adorned with grapevines and leaves.” I think its fair to say there’s a tiny bit of elvish inspiration there too not to mention considering how much she plays Star Trek Online, maybe some Vulcan. All this from someone who never really played Guild Wars up until recently. We’ll make her a die hard fan yet. Maybe.

I also ran into this piece in multiple places. Greyfox on the guru2 forums and on deviantart truly has some talent for drawing and painting. He doesn’t have a lot to say about it that I’ve seen, other than the title and that its a human vs a sylvari.

There are a few other examples of fan art which I will let those interested seek out for themselves. I didn’t want to start including some and leaving out others so I’ll stick to my personal favourites for now. Check out this sub-forum at GuildWars2Guru and the old search function at deviantart for more.

Obey and Dismantle Fan Art

Mursaat obeyA viral marketing campaign like the Obey vs Dismantle meme going on for Guild Wars usually produces some fan art. People have taken sides by adding #obey or #dismantle to their posts, but they’ve also created a couple pieces of art. I thought I’d add them here. The image on the left was created, I think, by the user Black over at the IncGamers forums.

Probably the funniest images used are just in-game screenshots of various “ugly” mursaat being posted with a simple two word refrain being added. “Nuff said”. Very similar to the years old meme of youtube videos showing one nations cute girls vs another nations… not so cute girls.

The image below was created by Ravious over at KillTenRats.

Nox over at iloveguildwars created this next piece.

The following two images were created for the Mursaat Rally. It’s mildly related propaganda, but fans are using it to support their side. I thought it fit well with this post. Kudos to this dude.
