Lion's Arch never looked quite so piratey

With every major release of information about Guild Wars 2, Arenanet follows it up on their blog. They try to release a few new details, address the questions of paranoid schizophrenics and people who never bothered to read the original article, and generally calm the frenzied masses. This week it’s all about the smart phone apps announced last week.

The first thing I’d like to point out is that one of the major things I personally noted when we finally got more details about these apps isn’t addressed at all.

Consistently I heard people commenting that they were worried about privacy issues, friends settings, being followed or even stalked. What about being forced to give up small portions of your in game privacy just to have people in your friends list? How about if people demand access to that functionality just to be in their guild? Some not entirely logical reactions but still.

Arenanet didn’t address anything of the sort. Okay they did answer some questions that addressed this in the various interviews. However, they answered plenty of other things covered in the interviews, so why not this? Not to mention it was one of the most talked about things I noticed. Why wouldn’t they try to allay those fears?

Moving on to the usual harsh and cruel, “Hunter mocks the questions and answers found inside ‘follow ups'” business, we have this question.

Q: Considering that Guild Wars isn’t officially supported on the Mac, can we interpret the news about the Extended Experience (which is supported on iPhones, iPads, and iPods) as an indication that Guild Wars 2 will be playable on the Mac OS?

Because developing apps for iphones and developing games for mac are the same thing right? Ugh.

Q: Will all the features on the mobile apps also be available on the web?

Well it was only covered in virtually every interview, but just to clarify, yes.

Q: Can I be in-game with one character and use the mobile app to chat to friends in-game using a different character?

What in god’s name would be the point of this.

Q: Is there any chance of getting something akin to GW’s observer mode with this application?

Rick: That’s definitely within the realm of possibility, but we haven’t announced any such features…yet.

Oh an interesting question. Being able to watch structured competitive PvP, even if its just an overhead view on the map, would be pretty nifty. Now that would be something to do riding home on that bus they keep mentioning.

Is the bus system in Seattle that great? Seriously.
